Environmental Management Training Program

A relatively new training program at Niskamoon Corporation, the Environmental Management Program is a 3-year DEC offered by the CEGEP de St-Felicien through the College in Chibougamau.  St-Felicien’s Environmental Technician Program is one of the most widely recognized of its kind in Quebec.  The curriculum, that will be offered in Chibougamau, will essentially be a copy of the one offered in St-Felicien.

There are four disciplines for students to choose from where the first year is the same for everyone before entering into your specialty.  These are the four options:

- environmental protection (water, garbage, municipal issues)
- wildlife technician
- forestry technician
- heritage protection (tourism, guiding, etc.)

The programs will be specially adapted to Cree needs, namely:  social programs to ease the culture shock of moving away from the communities, lodging and family support networks, math and science prerequisite training, French training (with some courses to be given in French towards the end of the program) and an on-the-job training component (1 full summer) that will be in addition to the mandatory stage in the second summer of the program.

All in all, it is a great new program and we are hoping to generate enough interest to start this coming September!
