Traditional Gatherings

Generally, traditional gatherings are organized by a large majority of Cree communities to celebrate family and community life.

These events feature cultural activities and are held for the most part in the summertime.

The Corporation has adopted a Policy on Traditional Gatherings that provides funding for 50% of projects up to a maximum amount of $50,000 for one traditional gathering per community per year.

A total amount of $225,251 was committed for traditional gatherings for the year 2008-2009, as follows:

  • 2008-031: Old Nemaska 2008 Gathering: $50,000
  • 2008-061: Whapmagoostui Traditional Gathering: $50,000
  • 2008-068: Waswanipi Traditional Gathering Chiiwetau: $40,251
  • 2008-091: Oujé-Bougoumou Gathering Swampy Place 2008: $25,000
  • 2008-130: Chisasibi Annual Traditional Pow Wow 2009: $10,000
  • 2009-031: Youth Council Proposal for Elders and Youth Gathering: $50,000
